Rebranding one of Cardiff’s best loved chip shops

Top Gun Fish & Chip restaurant had been established in Whitchurch village, outside Cardiff for over two decades, latterly opening at two other sites across the region. Far from your average greasy fryers, they had built a reputation for quality and presentation. However, they felt they had outgrown their salute to the 1986 blockbuster and instead sought to build a refreshed identity that would become synonymous with the traditional fish supper.
The brief was to devise a name that was both memorable and could, over time, be adopted as a noun (much in the same way as people ‘grab a Nandos’, a Maccy D’s, or more locally ‘a Juboraj’). It also asked if the new name could be derived from a meaningful story that could weave a compelling brand experience and help set them apart.
