It was his first full marathon and despite training for over eighteen months including 10k fun runs and two Cardiff Half Marathons the distance nearly got the better of him.
After mile 12 Andy’s legs turned to concrete and he struggled for the remainder of the race. Fortunately, the NY crowds were fantastic and their cheers helped spur him and the other runners on. His overall time was 4:13:31 – a half hour slower than he had anticipated but he was just happy to finish. Although finishing 19,471st out of over 45,000 runners he was embarrassed to be beaten by both a running Statue of Liberty and an oversized iPhone.
